Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who are you? What are you selling?
We are a band called Girlyman. We make music with three-part harmonies and mostly acoustic instruments (if you'd like to read more about us, you can visit www.girlyman.com).

We're using this website to sell recordings of shows that we've performed over the past year.

Why are you selling recordings of your shows?
As we mentioned on the front page of this site, we recently put out a live CD. We recorded a number of shows in the fall of 2007 for the CD, and then we just kept pressing "record" night after night. A number of our fans have been involved in "booting" our shows in the past (bringing a microphone & recorder and recording our concerts), which we are generally fine with, as long as no one sells them for profit. But we thought that some people might be interested in purchasing a higher quality recording made using some of the same equipment we used to make our live CD.

Can I still "boot" Girlyman shows?
We still allow booting of our shows, as long as you follow the Official Girlyman Taping Policy.

I ordered a recording of a show at the actual concert, and I haven't received anything yet. Did you forget about me?
Rest assured, we have not (hopefully) forgotten about you. Sometimes, it takes us a while to mix, master and mail out the CDs of shows that people order from us at the venues. If you want to correspond with a human about this, please write to info@girlyman.com.

Can I download a recording here that I ordered at the concert?
At the moment, the recordings we sell live at concerts and the ones we sell here are separate things, so if there is a recording here that you ordered at a concert, you would have to pay again to download.

Can I order one of the shows you sell here on CD?
At the moment the recordings on this website are only available as MP3 downloads.

Why aren't there more shows available for sale here?
This is a new project for us, and we've only put up a few shows because we wanted to know how many people would want to buy them before we make any huge investments of time and money into it. If all goes well, we hope to start adding shows regularly to this site.

Why do you ask me to sign up for an account?
If you want to purchase a live recording, this shopping cart system requires that you have an account, so that you can easily download the MP3 files. It also makes it easier if you want to purchase anything else here. If you choose to pay using PayPal, an account will automatically be created for you, so that you can download your recording(s).

Can I purchase individual songs from a concert?
At the moment, we only offer entire concerts for sale.

I've downloaded my live recording. Now what do I do?
The recordings are in ZIP file format. You will need to "unzip" them before you can use the MP3 files. Most computers can do this automatically, but you might need additional (usually free) software: Windows users can use ZIP Reader by PKWARE, and Macintosh users can use Stuffit Expander.

Once the file is "unzipped", you'll have a folder with all of the MP3 files. You'll need some form of MP3 player to listen to them. The best known player is probably iTunes, which you can use to listen to the MP3s, burn CDs of them, or put them on your iPod, etc.

If this page hasn't answered your question, please write to info@girlyman.com and someone will get back to you shortly.
